Ottawa Newborn Photographer | Twins. Welcoming twins into the world is a doubly wonderful experience. As an experienced newborn photographer, I understand very well what makes capturing their moments unique. Twin sessions bring their own set of joys and challenges, making them quite different than singleton sessions. There are three ways twin sessions differ and why specialized attention is needed for these photo shoots.

Individualized Attention for Each Twin:

Unlike singleton sessions where the focus is solely on one newborn, twin sessions require attention to two babies. At a newborn session the entire experience is baby-led. This means the poses, pace, and breaks for eating and soothing depend on baby’s needs. The challenge at a twin session is that there are two unique humans calling the shots! I tackle this challenge head-on by incorporating a second set of hands at my twin newborn sessions. An experienced assistant to help me soothe and pose the babies means we are responsive to each baby’s needs. My twin sessions prioritize both babies’ comfort and by offering this individualized approach I ensure each baby is also beautifully photographed.

Capturing their Interactions:

Twin sessions involve capturing heartwarming interactions between the babies. Whether it’s tiny hands holding onto each other or sleeping poses with them nestled together, these adorable captures require a careful approach. Coordinating interactive poses and ensuring both twins are comfortable and secure is a skill I have developed over many years of experience. To ensure families have special photos of their twins together I incorporate a variety of sibling poses. These poses capture twins’ unique relationships and bonds in addition to individual portraits.

Flexible Scheduling and Posing:

Twin sessions tend to require some extra flexibility when it comes to scheduling. For singletons, I most often schedule newborn sessions within the first 1-2 weeks after birth. Singletons are usually born close to 40 weeks along in pregnancy. The arrival of twins can be much earlier than that. We recognize that might mean we need to wait longer than usual when twins are premature or need to stay in the hospital. We remain flexible on timing and wait until after the birth to see when would be best to schedule their session. If babies end up being older at their session and are more alert I simply adapt the poses to best suit their development and physiology. Newborns, especially twins, have their own schedules and needs. By remaining flexible and adaptive I can create a beautiful gallery of images for the family in a way that accommodates the specific needs of the babies.

Capturing the adorableness of twins requires experience in the intricacies of these special sessions. I make sure parents have beautiful photos of their twins by offering individualized attention, by including cuddly sibling poses, and by remaining flexible to the needs of both babies.
