Ottawa Family Photographer – Editing and Retouching. Being an Ottawa family photographer means I spend a lot of time at the beach. Families love these sessions because they offer a beautiful background for sessions, and give kids plenty of room to explore. I love them too because beach sessions are relaxed and the light is beautiful, even on cloudy days. They do come with one unpredictable twist: I never know how many people will show up on the same day.

Recently at our beach sessions, our usually quiet shoreline turned into a very popular hangout. People were fishing, enjoying the water, and paddle boarding. I keep the session fun and adjust angles, spots, and poses to minimize distractions. When I cannot remove every distraction during the session, I take care of the rest in editing. After each session, clients receive an editing and retouching questionnaire. It lets them tell me exactly how they want their images polished. Some want me to remove redness, bruises, or stray hairs. Others prefer a natural look. I follow whatever they choose. The one thing no one ever has to worry about is the background. You would never know that people were fishing behind you, or that a paddle boarder drifted through the frame, or that a family played in the water a few feet away. I removed all of them in Photoshop, so your beach photos look like we had the beach all to ourselves.

So yes, easy to access locations can surprise us with unexpected distractions, which is the trade off for beautiful outdoor session locations. Thankfully I’m used to working in busy locations and whatever I can’t deal with on the day of the sessions, I will edit out in your final images so you will never know it was there!
