Ottawa Family Photography – Traditions. Ottawa family photography gives me the chance to watch families grow, change, and create traditions that last for years. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of those traditions. One of my favourite examples is a family I first photographed when they were expecting their twin girls. Now, almost eight years later, I still get to see them regularly. Watching their daughters grow from tiny newborns into confident, funny kids reminds me why these traditions matter so much.

As families return year after year, their photos begin to tell a bigger story. Each session adds another chapter, and those chapters become a visual history that children can look back on. Because of that, I often encourage families to think about how they can build their own photography traditions. A little planning makes it easy, and the results feel meaningful for everyone.

Here are a few ways to create photo traditions that last:

  • Choose a consistent location so your sessions feel connected, or rotate through the seasons to capture your family in different environments.
  • Pick a fun family activity to do after your session. When kids associate photos with a special outing, they arrive excited and relaxed.
  • Plan a few repeatable groupings or poses each year. Over time, you’ll build a collection that shows how much everyone has grown.
  • Work with the same photographer or a small handful of favourites. Kids feel comfortable when they know what to expect, which leads to natural, joyful images.
  • Choose an easy display spot in your home where you can add new photos each year. When the process feels simple, you’re far more likely to print and enjoy your images.
