Ottawa Newborn Photos | Play time. If you’ve ever tried to convince a toddler to sit still, you already know it’s a bit like negotiating with a tiny, chaotic CEO. They have their own agenda, their own timeline, and absolutely no interest in your carefully crafted plan. That’s why, during my Ottawa newborn photo sessions, I lean into play. It’s the secret ingredient that keeps older siblings happy, relaxed, and genuinely excited to be part of the experience.

A newborn session can feel overwhelming for older siblings. There’s a new baby in the house, routines are shifting, and suddenly everyone wants them to “smile nicely” and “be gentle” and “hold still.” That’s a lot of pressure for someone who still calls blueberries “bluebeebees.” So instead of expecting them to follow a long list of instructions, I meet them where they are.

When families arrive, we always start with sibling photos. Kids have shorter attention spans, and I want to capture their best energy before it’s replaced by the universal childhood anthem of “I’m done.” I bring out simple games, silly prompts, and a few toys that magically help them pose without realizing they’re posing. They get to play. I get natural smiles. Everyone wins.

The result is a gallery filled with genuine connection and joyful expressions. Parents love the photos, of course, but what I love most is hearing that the kids had fun. When they leave with a good memory, they come back to future sessions excited instead of hesitant.
