Newborn Photography Ottawa | Sibling ages. As an Ottawa newborn photographer, I get to work with siblings of all ages, and that is one of my favourite parts of a newborn session. Every age brings something different to the experience, and I love finding the approach that works best for each child.

For toddler and preschool siblings, sessions feel like playtime. We turn photos into a game. I use simple prompts, movement, and lots of encouragement. This helps little ones feel relaxed and confident. Natural smiles follow quickly when kids feel like they are having fun instead of being posed.

With younger school-age children, I often bring out toys. A small prop or a silly sound can break the ice fast. Laughter comes easily at this age, and those genuine reactions create warm, connected newborn sibling photos that families love.

Older elementary-age siblings bring a different energy. They love to help, ask questions, and they want to know what I am doing and why. I enjoy including them in the process and giving them small jobs. It helps them feel important and keeps them engaged throughout the session.

Tweens and teens benefit most from conversation. I chat with them about school, hobbies, sports, and what they enjoy doing in their free time. Those conversations help them relax and feel seen. When older siblings feel comfortable, it shows clearly in the final images.

As a mom of three, all of this feels natural to me. Playing games, chatting, and multitasking come easily. I can photograph your newborn, connect with siblings, and keep the session moving smoothly at the same time. The result is a calm session, happy siblings, and beautiful newborn photos that reflect real connection and family life.
