Maternity Photoshoot Ottawa | Siblings. Deciding whether to include your older children in your maternity photos is a personal choice. There’s no right or wrong answer—just what feels best for you and your family. As an Ottawa maternity photographer, I’ve worked with many families who’ve made both choices, and each session turned out beautifully in its own way.
1. Consider the Focus of Your Session
Think about the kind of images you want. If your goal is to highlight your pregnancy and the changes in your body, a solo session might be ideal. This allows for a calm, intimate experience focused entirely on you. Some people want to replicate their previous maternity session, which didn’t include their children, making the decision to attend solo an easy one.
2. Include Them for Part of the Session
If you’re uncertain, consider having your children join for a portion of the session. We can start with family photos and then have a relative or friend take them home, allowing us to focus on solo shots afterward. This approach offers the best of both worlds—capturing family moments and also giving you time to focus on yourself without the distraction of having your children present.
3. Reflect on Your Comfort and Stress Levels
Your comfort is paramount. If you prefer a relaxed, slower-paced session to connect with your pregnancy, a solo shoot might be more suitable. However, if your children are eager to participate and you feel up to it, their involvement can bring joy and authenticity to the photos.
Talk It Through with Your Photographer
Still unsure? Let’s have a conversation. I can help you weigh your options based on your past experiences and the type of images you’re envisioning. Together, we’ll plan a session that feels just right for you.
