I’m often asked about “affordable” newborn photos or a “cheap” session option.  It’s important to keep in mind that the term “affordable” is subjective as everyone’s budgets and priorities are different.  For some people, $1500 is considered an affordable option. To to others, $500 is the maximum budget they have set aside for a session.  

Why is newborn photography more expensive than other types of photography sessions?

Unlike family photography sessions, traditional newborn photography sessions require safety and posing training as well as editing expertise. They also require a studio space equipped with specialized props, accessories, and lighting equipment.  In order to soothe, pose, and photograph babies, photographers require a specialized set of skills and years of experience. Delivering a gallery with a beautiful variety of images takes experience and skill!

Newborn sessions are also longer than other sessions as babies need to be fed, changed, and soothed back to sleep.

3. If newborn photos are a priority for you and your family, add your newborn session to your budget for items for your baby (e.g., stroller, nursery items). You can decide whether there are items that can wait to be purchased until after your baby is born or later during their first year, such as clothing and toys. This would allow you to schedule your newborn session during the first few weeks and stick to your budget.
