Styling a newborn session | Every newborn session is unique because every family we photograph is unique! We style each and every session to our clients preferences for colours, style, and poses.
To start, we discussed with the parents what their ideal colour palette would be. They mentioned that they wanted a mix of pink and purple. But they also wanted to incorporate some neutral tones to balance it out. We absolutely loved this idea! We got to work on creating a session workflow that included timeless neutrals as well as beautiful shades of pink and purple.
Because fresh flowers are hard to come by in Ottawa in March, we relied on digital art backdrops to incorporate beautiful blooms when styling their newborn session.
For the neutral tones, we opted for taupe and cream blankets to pose the baby on. We also used our white heart bowl and farmhouse style baby bed. This allowed us to incorporate neutral textures and layers into the prop shots.
When it came to the family photos, we made sure to keep it timeless and classic, as they requested for styling their newborn session. We positioned the parents and the baby close together on both the grey and bright white backdrop. This put the focus of the photos on their connection.
For another special photo to capture their connection, I soothed their baby girl to sleep on top of black fabric. Then I posed her mom and dad’s arms and hands around her. The resulting photo is not only stunning, it’s also a wonderful memento to have from this time while she is still so small and curled up.
