Posing During Maternity Sessions | “I don’t know how to pose!”
I know what you’re thinking: “How do I pose with this watermelon-sized bump and not look like a waddling penguin?” Well, fear not: as a seasoned maternity photographer, I’ve got plenty of training, experience, and tricks up my sleeve to help you strike a pose AND feel relaxed and confident during your session.
Your job is to show up to your session ready to enjoy the experience; my job is to take care of the session workflow and posing.
First of all, let’s talk about those pregnancy “glow” struggles. Between the morning sickness, backaches, and swollen ankles, feeling like a glowing goddess can be a tall order. I structure my sessions in a way that minimizes movement, maximizes posing variety (with minimal effort), and ensures you have the chance to take breaks and relax in between different outfits and backdrops.
People are often concerned about poses feeling cheesy or unnatural, which is why we spend time getting to know our clients through our questionnaire process before the session so we don’t ask an “easy going, love to laugh” couple to pose in a way that is dramatic and serious. Poses look unnatural when people feel uncomfortable, which is why it’s my job during sessions to distract you, help you relax, and choose poses that are a good fit for your personality and your relationship with your partner.
Although there’s non stop adjustments and fine tuning the poses throughout your session, the most important part is actually our conversation. When we spend time talking and laughing during the session, you forget about what you’re doing, which allows you to pose without being stiff or self conscious.
