When choosing underwear for a maternity session it’s important to consider fit, style, and comfort. Think first about the types of photos you’d like and what you want to wear (or not wear!). Maternity sessions can include fully dressed photos, photos in just your underwear, or completely undressed. It’s entirely up to every client and what they have in mind for their photos.
Here are some ideas and things to consider when choosing underwear for your maternity session:
- Fit. Regardless if your bra and underwear are the only things you’re wearing or if they are under your clothing, making sure they fit is very important. Undergarments that are too small are not only uncomfortable but they can also cut into your skin or leave lines. Check out lingerie stores for bra extenders, they can help turn your regular bras into maternity bras.
- Lace bralette and matching underwear. For expectant parents who would like only partially dressed photos, a delicate lace bralette and underwear set is a beautiful outfit option. Look for an underwear set in a soft pastel or nude color to keep the focus on your belly for your maternity session.
- Bras for strapless gowns. Whether you’re wearing your own strapless dress or borrowing items from my studio collection you’ll want to have a strapless bra for wearing under it. Choose bras that have a full strap rather than stick on bras or petals to ensure you have enough support.
- Black bra and underwear for silhouettes at your maternity session. Dramatic silhouettes against my bright white light are a popular and stunning type of photo to include in your maternity session. A matching black bra and underwear set is a beautiful (yet easy!) outfit option for creating these stunning photos.
- Sports bra work too! If the thought of heading to the lingerie store this far into your pregnancy is too much but you’d like to include some bare belly photos in your session you can always wear a sports bra or simple crop top. Paired with jeans or leggings a stretchy sports bra will give you the best of both worlds. Comfort and a great look for photos!
