Some of my favourite family memories have taken place during March Breaks spent in Ottawa. At this time of year we’re all keen for some fun family time away from routines. If you’re in need of some March Break inspiration, read on for five of my family’s favourite fun activities!
Sugar Bushes
Nothing is more of a quintessential family activity at the end of Winter than a visit to one of our local sugar bushes. We take a trip to the sugar bush every year starting from the time our oldest was just a baby. Different sugar bushes in the area offer activities such as pancake breakfasts, walks between the tapped trees, wagon rides, and maple taffy tasting. Check out this list of local sugar bushes and their offerings here.
Escape Rooms
A visit to an escape room is a newer find for my family but they have been a huge hit for all five of us. While escape rooms started off as more of an activity for adults there are more businesses now offering family focused challenges. If you have older kids or teens and want to try a new activity that will get your family working together check out this list of Ottawa escape rooms here.
Museums
There was a time when I held a membership to aaallll of the local museums and spent many hours every week exploring them with my preschoolers. Now that my children are all in school we hit up our favourites on weekends and holiday breaks. If you’re looking for some indoor fun this March Break, check out the special programming these Ottawa museums are offering:
- Canadian Museum of Nature
- Canada Agriculture and Food Museum
- Canadian Museum of History
- Canada Aviation and Space Museum
- Canada Science and Technology Museum
Outdoor Fun
The further we get into Winter the harder I find it is to come up with fun outdoor activities to do with the family. But there is still tonnes of Winter fun to be had in Ottawa this March! If your family needs to get outside but you’re struggling for ideas on what to do, I love this list put out by the National Capital Commission of 35 ideas for winter activities in Ottawa–Gatineau There are so many new-to-me ideas on the list, I can’t wait to get out and try some of them!
Family fun at the Ottawa Public Library
A trip to the library might not have been on your radar this March Break but it’s definitely something you should add to your list. Not only is a trip to the library FREE and gives your children lots of things to do at home with books, video games, and more; the OPL also has lots of fun programming planned for the week of March Break. Check out the options at your neighbourhood library here.
