Outdoor back to school photos are wonderful for students of all ages. From junior kindergarten all the way up to high school.
I started offering Back to School Sessions many, many Septembers ago after having so many clients ask for them. Frustration with green screens as a backdrop, messy hair, and awkward smiles had parents asking for something different. After seeing many grimaced faced proofs sent home with my own children every September I had to agree. A new back to school session option was an excellent idea!
Outdoor back to school photos tradition
I knew there must be a better way for back-to-school photos and haven’t looked back since my first year of sessions. Outdoor back to school photos are now a much-loved tradition for many of my clients, and myself! I get to see these kiddos’ smiling faces and watch them grow up. Their parents get beautiful, updated photos that they’re proud to display and share with all of their family and friends. Some parents even look ahead to the holidays and make photo gifts for grandparents using their outdoor back to school photos. What a wonderful gift idea!
For some parents the perk of outdoor back to school photos is that they can help with outfits and hair. A little last-minute brush, face wipe, or outfit adjustment goes a long way!
Photo events at school usually have to be very fast moving. Just a quick pose or two and they need to move on to the next child. My favourite perk about my outdoor back-to-school photos is that I’m able to spend time and connect with every student. This makes the process a lot of fun and means the children and teens are comfortable and able to show off their personality to the camera.
Capturing genuine expressions and natural smiles is so important in portrait photography. As parents we want to remember our children’s personalities and looks from this time forever. I love helping ensure families have a beautiful memento of their children at back-to-school time. I’m excited to see everyone’s smiling faces again next year and hope they have a wonderful school year.
