The Ottawa Tulip Festival is a wonderful occasion for family photos. After two years of virtual events everyone in Ottawa was thrilled to visit these special flowers in person. This year’s Tulip Festival not only celebrated a return to in person events but also it’s 70th anniversary. This made offering Tulip Sessions for family photos a must do in 2022!
Tulip Sessions were popular with both families with younger children as well as families with teens and young adults. Tulips are a great backdrop for photos of families of all ages and stages.
I think location scouting for tulips is one of my new favourite early Spring activities. It was so much fun hitting all of the areas in downtown Ottawa in the days and weeks leading up to sessions. I was keeping a close eye on the tulips for our Ottawa Tulip Festival family photo sessions as our weather was quite erratic this Spring. Temperatures were all over the place at the end of April. Even with many hours of location scouting, I could not not be sure when the tulips would be in full bloom until just a couple of days before sessions. Temperatures would be below freezing one day and then the next it would feel like mid-July! Mother Nature had me guessing up until the last minute but I was thrilled when they came up and opened on schedule.
Family Photos at the Ottawa Tulip Festival
My lovely clients were as excited as I was to hear that the tulips were ready. We met up in central Ottawa at a gorgeous location in the heart of our city for their family photos.
We had already planned all of their photos ahead of time so once they arrived we got right down to taking photos. These teens and young adults along with their parents were all so much fun to photograph. They were lovely to chat with as I posed and photographed them amongst the pretty tulips and with their families. There is truly no best age for a family photo session. All ages and stages of family life should be captured on camera. I’m thrilled so many lovely families are continuing the tradition long after children have entered their teen years.
