I am always up for a Winter family photography session!

Outdoor sessions in January through March are perfect for families who want a classic Canadian Winter backdrop. They’re also ideal for getting a head start on your holiday photo cards.

In Ottawa we have several months of Winter and snow. For many families this is a favourite time of year to get outside and enjoy their Winter pastimes together. I suggest these Winter family photography sessions for those families as a way to capture their love of the Winter. It’s ideal for celebrating and remembering all of the memories you make having fun in the snow together.

On the day of our sessions together we had a gorgeous clear Winter day. It was crisp out but for a February day we got lucky with the temperatures. In February we just never know what Mother Nature will bring us so we prepare by dressing in layers. I also plan my Winter sessions in a way that keeps us moving. With an active session and a little bit of layering up it’s no problem at all to hold a Winter family photography session.

Excitement for Winter family photography sessions

The excitement of the families for their sessions was fantastic. Families with an adventerous spirit love Winter sessions so I was not surprised at how happy everyone was to be in the fresh snow. My family sessions are also a lot more fun than most teenagers think they will be. Even those teens that might have been coming along more as a good sport were quick to join in on the fun and conversation. I love showing teens that photography sessions can be fast and fun. The memories created and shared with your family are important at all ages and stages so keeping it fun is key to continuing on your session traditions.

I had such a wonderful time photographing these lovely families at their Winter family photography sessions. The Winter in Ottawa always feels like it’s getting a bit long by February but capturing memories in the snow keeps the fun alive until the snow melts.
