Ottawa surprise proposal session. The session wasn’t just what the newly engaged bride-to-be had thought it would be. This couple’s session was so much more! I was thrilled to be there to capture their surprise proposal on camera for them.
We all planned together a playful and fun couple’s session in the snow for them. Sessions for a couple can be anything you want it be. They’re perfect for capturing the love you have for each other and making sure you’re both in photos together.
For candid couple’s sessions the great outdoors is ideal as a setting. I chose a beautiful snowy Ottawa location for their photos. I knew this special spot would work for their planned photos together as well as for the surprise proposal.
Before their session, the couple thought about the types of photos they’d like and we brainstormed how we would pull everything together. We planned to include photos of them together walking in the woods, cuddled up on a blanket, and maybe even piggyback rides if the snow allowed for it. Meanwhile, the husband-to-be and I were secretly coming up with our own surprise proposal side plans.
On the day of their session we met up at the edge of the snowy woods. It was a crisp Ottawa January day but the sun gave us a hint of warmth and a glow that fit the exciting mood of the day. To stay warm we jumped right in with the session and started off with the photographs we had all planned together.

After all of the action shots we had planned I asked them to move into position for a romantic pose. With the codewords we had planned I prepared the groom-to-be to get ready. Once ready, I asked her to turn around for a new pose and started shooting knowing what magic was about to unfold.
The soon-to-be-bride-to-be then turned to face him. Once turned around she saw her man on one knee with the ring. The surprise and then the joy on her face as she realized what was happening was priceless. His surprise proposal went off without a hitch and they are head over heels in love. I can’t be any more happy for this lovely couple on their engagement. Congratulations!
