A rainbow baby is a baby that is born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss.  In the real world, a beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm and gives hope of things getting better” (Source: Kicks Count)

A very special thank you to Isobel’s mom and dad for sharing their story with all of us.

“In the spring of 2016 my husband and I decided we were ready for a second child. I had had an easy pregnancy with my daughter and figured I was in for a very similar experience. But for the next 8 months I became pregnant three times and kept miscarrying before the 10 week mark. It was very upsetting, confusing and meant that positive pregnancy tests were no longer a source of joy but rather fear. Each pregnancy was followed by incredible anxiety and worry often took over my day. By the third miscarriage I no longer trusted my body and began exploring adoption. We were referred to the Ottawa Fertility Clinic and after months of testing they deemed the recurring miscarriages “unexplained.” It was a relief to know that there was nothing physically wrong with either of us but having nothing to “fix” meant that we could be faced with a never ending cycle. I found out I was pregnant with Isobel last July and protected myself by not becoming attached. It wasn’t until her arrival on March 2 that I could relax and celebrate the fact that we are now a family of four. The rainbow baby session with Sara was such a special experience – it shows that there’s beauty and hope after a period of sadness and pain. I’ll treasure the photos forever.”
