A rainbow baby is a baby that is born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death or infant loss. In the real world, a beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm and gives hope of things getting better” (Source: Kicks Count)
A very special thank you to Orson’s mom and dad for sharing their story with all of us.
“We have all heard people say, ‘It is horrible to lose a child’. Losing an infant has its own unique grieving challenges because you lose the opportunity to meet them, let alone get to know them.
My first son, Gus, was injured during my c-section. My husband spent a few hours with Gus while he was conscious, but I never got to look into my son’s eyes. I never saw him smile or watch him explore the world. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to hold Gus and watch over him while he was in a coma for three days. I have great memories from my pregnancy, but what most people would consider my son’s life, those three days, were devastating. After I lost Gus, I wanted to remember him, but I didn’t want my only memories to be of those devastating three days. In grief, my most important work was to create new positive associations and new positive objects that would remind me of Gus. I think of Gus every day and I am grateful for the things that remind me of him.
Sara’s Rainbow Baby photography session allowed us to create a new positive object that helps us remember Gus. It also allowed our second son, Orson, to participate in Gus’s memory. My family will always cherish these precious keepsakes.”
