Every month in 2018 I will be looking for babies and expectant moms for special themed sessions. Occasionally I will use these sessions to photograph new props and backdrops but the purpose of these sessions is ultimately for professional development (experimenting with different light set-ups and poses) and creative fulfillment. I could easily photograph 10 creative sessions a month with the backlog of ideas percolating in my brain but I feel like 2 is a reasonable number if I want to get any sleep in the coming year.
If you are expecting a baby in 2018 or have a little one at home (under 8 months old), please sign up to my special model call list so you don’t miss out on all the details: http://bit.ly/
The theme for my sessions in February is red. You can see the photos from my January sessions here. The photos from my February maternity session can be found here.
Growing up I had Anne Geddes posters plastered all over my bedroom. I was an only child, didn’t have cousins nearby, and rarely babysat, but for some reason I obsessed with her art.
Funny how I didn’t think much of it until my path led me to my current passion for maternity and newborn photography. It turns out the love I have for newborn at was decades in the making.
For my February creative sessions I knew that I wanted to incorporate roses into the newborn poses I had planned. On the day of our session I photographed both the babies and the individual roses, to ensure my lighting was consistent across both images, and then once the session was complete I was able to blend the two images together to create the final photograph. I’ve shared a time lapse of the editing process for those of you curious about how I create the final images!
