One of the most important parts of my business has always been to constantly challenge myself and to learn new skills. Periodically, I hold model calls when I want to test new lighting set-ups, poses, or if there are editing techniques that I want to experiment with.

In January I had the chance to work with three very adorable babies to combine posed studio images of the little ones with more elaborate sets that were created both in studio and outdoors. It’s important to me not only to create beautiful works of art for my clients but also to show clients, and followers of my Facebook page, how the images are created so that parents and new photographers don’t attempt to create the images they see without recognizing they are done as composites. A composite is an image that is created from combining several different photos; they are used across all genres of photography but in newborn photography are used primarily to ensure a baby’s safety. I wrote a blog post in the Spring of 2015 about newborn safety and will continue to push my own boundaries for creating more elaborate images while at the same time ensuring that my littlest clients are safe and happy.
