Cozy sweaters, falling leaves, and crisp mornings are coming! The Fall in Ottawa is one of the most popular and gorgeous times of year for family photographs and I can’t wait for the start of my 2020 Outdoor Fall Sessions.

With Fall Session booking starting soon we wanted to answer a few of my most commonly received questions so that when booking opens up on August 25th you’re ready to select your session.

The pandemic has been an incredibly stressful time for all of us, including our children.  My goal, moving forward, is for our sessions to be as joyous and as stress-free as possible. What exactly does this mean?

  • we are going to focus on choosing outfits and hairstyles that are comfortable and don’t require adjustments.
  • we are going to focus on enjoying the session time while I take photos of you interacting with your family.  I encourage families to bring favourite books, toys, blankets, and other beloved activities.
  • we are going to let go of our expectations for perfection and focus on beautiful, happy memories of the people we have been staying home to protect.

How will Covid impact my Fall Session?

  • Our focus is still on making sure your session is the best possible experience, which means we are available every step of the way to help you plan for your session, including what to wear and what to expect.
  • We will still have toys to capture attention and garner laughs.
  • One of my assistants will be with me at sessions to help me capture the most beautiful smiles and loving moments.
  • Session locations will continue to be chosen based on accessible parking, a variety of backdrops, and in low traffic areas to reduce distractions and contact with others.

What are your Covid safety protocols for Fall Sessions?

  • We will remain at least 6-8 feet apart for the duration of the session.
  • We will hold off on hugging, handshakes, and high fives.  There will be no physical contact during sessions.  Our enthusiasm and excitement will bridge the distance, I promise.
  • We will not make any hands-on adjustments to hair, clothing, or poses.  We will give verbal cues and directions as well as demonstrate what we are asking you to do.
  • We won’t be sharing props or blankets however you are more than welcome to bring your own items to the session.

What is your session illness policy?

Sessions will be postponed if anyone in your household is:

  • sick in the two weeks leading up to your session
  • is under quarantine after contact with suspected or positive cases of Covid at work, daycare, or school

All clients will complete a screening questionnaire before their session to protect everyone’s health and safety.

Due to the time limited nature of Fall Sessions and unpredictable weather, I cannot guarantee that your Fall Session can be rescheduled in 2020. Any sessions that cannot be rescheduled will be offered priority booking for future sessions.

How do I book my session?

Booking your session can all be done online in my boutique starting on August 25th. Sign up to my VIP List and the booking links to all my sessions will be sent straight to your inbox.

Do I have to pay for my session fee in full?

No. A session deposit is required to secure your session. The balance for your session is paid the week your session is scheduled to take place.

What are the session options?

There are two session options:

  1. 15 minute Memories Session ($299+HST)- for families with 3 people OR a session that is just for your children. Includes 5 edited and retouched digital images of your choice in colour and black & white.
  2. 20 minute More Memories Session ($345+HST)- for families with more than 3 family members. Includes 8 edited and retouched digital images of your choice in colour and black & white.

Is 15 to 20 minutes really enough time?

Absolutely.  I have photographed over 3500 sessions and families return to me again and again because I work quickly, I make the process fun and enjoyable, and I know how to create beautiful artistic memories in a short period of time.  Little ones don’t have long attention spans and my goal is to make the session as fun and stress-free as possible. I also work with an assistant and having an extra set of hands during my sessions is invaluable.

What types of photos do you take during our session?

Posed, candid, both…it’s up to you!  My clients fill out a detailed questionnaire before our time together so I know what photos and poses are most important to you and your family.

If we can’t have contact, how will you pose us for photos?

All posing instructions can be given verbally and parents can help their children following my prompts.

If your children can easily follow verbal instructions, which typically starts around the age of 5-7, we are able to incorporate a selection of posed images into your session.

If your children are babies, toddlers, or preschoolers, we will start with a few posed images, where you are all looking at the camera, and then after that we will take our lead from your little ones.

If your preference is for more traditional posed photos with specific hairstyles and outfits, which require hands on posing adjustments, I would encourage you to wait until 2021 to book your session when we hope that physical distancing recommendations for our profession will be lifted.

Can grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles come to the session?

Fall Sessions are for immediate family members only (parents and their children).  At this time I do not photograph events or offer sessions for large family gatherings.

How do I change my session date and time?

Please make sure to choose your session date and time carefully as sessions cannot be rescheduled.

Where will the sessions take place?

I choose all session locations based on accessibility, safety, and available light and backdrops. All sessions take place in the east end of Ottawa (in the Orleans area).   Clients are provided with the specific meeting place the day before the session.

What happens if it’s raining on the day of our session?

One of the reasons I offer only a limited number of sessions each month is because of unpredictable weather.  For each block of sessions I schedule I also have to schedule a backup date, in case of inclement weather, as well as at least 1-2 days per month in case Mother Nature is especially uncooperative.  Because I know my clients are busy, your backup session date and time is included in the session listing. This is to ensure that even if it does rain, your rescheduled session won’t interfere with your plans because you already know when it will take place!

I make the decision to postpone sessions based on satellite images and whether it will be actively raining at the time of our session.  This decision is made 90 minutes before the session. Sessions are not rescheduled due to temperature, wet ground, overcast sky, etc.

The following cancellation policy is in effect for Fall sessions. If sessions are postponed due to rain your session will take place at the same time it was originally scheduled on the date listed in your session description. If there is inclement weather anticipated on your rain date / time you will be offered one alternate session date / time.  There are no exceptions to this policy. If you cannot be present at the listed rain date and someone cannot be found to take your place your session fee will not be refunded nor can it be applied to a future session.

What do we wear?

I provide my clients with detailed suggestions on what to wear and how to prepare for their sessions. In the lead up to your session we’re happy to consult with you about your clothing so that you can feel confident and prepared for your session long before the day of your session with me.
