You are wrong.

I wish I could say it more often. I know when I speak up against the self doubt and self hatred that the resistance is tsunami-like. It’s overpowering and terrifying and consuming. Working first as a therapist and then as a photographer I have witnessed first hand how our bodies are a battleground. How intense our feelings are about our physical form and how deeply entrenched our thoughts about our bodies and our self worth are.

“thoughts are not reality nor fact”

The vast majority of women who step in front of my camera tell me they are not photogenic and that they hate having their picture taken. As we talk and joke and inevitably share stories about ourselves I desperately hope they can see themselves from my perspective. I photograph so many brave, courageous, cheeky, hilarious, shy, gorgeous, scarred, vulnerable, stunning, strong, passionate, and incredible women.

Our bodies, ourselves. They ache. They persevere. They carry babies. They nurture and hold. They can’t carry babies. They are sexy. They stretch and sag. They jump and dance. They sweat and break. They sustain. They are beaten and scarred. They are beautiful. They are bloody miraculous. They are.

Come as you are. Love yourself as you are. Embrace yourself. Be kind to yourself.

Thoughts are just thoughts. You are so much more.

So why a Boudoir Session?  “I would NEVER do that” you may declare.  Let me tell you why they’re so important:

1-They help you celebrate you how you are now.

Often times we think we will be happier with how we look if we could lose a few more pounds, improve our skin, or learn to hide our wrinkles. There is no perfect time to wait for: You as you are now is beautiful.

2-They help you reevaluate negative thoughts.

You live life thinking you are a certain way. Maybe you think of yourself as the shy type, or not so pretty, or too plump, or too anything. It’s not how other people see you though. A boudoir session lets you step back and look at yourself like others do — less critically. There is nothing like a boudoir session to make you realize how beautiful you actually are.

3-They force you to take time for yourself.

In the hustle and bustle of daily life it is easy to push aside doing things for yourself and things that make you feel good. A boudoir session experience is a true indulgence and a great way to take care of yourself and to take time for you. When you can focus on yourself it rejuvenates your spirit.

4-They are transformative

It is easy to get stuck in a rut and merely plod through life in a way that is comfortable to you. That comfort can lead to boredom and even feelings of inadequacy. A boudoir session is a chance to push beyond your comfort zone and expand your boundaries. All parts of your life are benefited when you challenge yourself to move beyond what is comfortable.

5-They are empowering

During a boudoir session you are encouraged to explore your style and express your personality. You emerge from your boudoir session feeling empowered and with a greater sense of confidence about who you are.

6-They give your sexual self a lift

Our identities are made up of all differents aspects, including our sexuality. While our sexuality is an important part of who we are as women we often push it aside or neglect it. A boudoir session helps you rediscover, encourage, and express that part of your life.

7-They express an often unseen side

Family photographs and headshots are a great thing to have but they only represent a small part of who you are. A boudoir session is a chance to express and immortalize all parts of your life and personality — not just your cheerful side, or your family or business life. You are much more than that.

8-They strengthen relationships

Photographs from a boudoir session can be kept private and solely for a woman’s eyes. Many women choose however to share the photographs with a partner as a gift. Sharing intimate, sensual photographs of yourself with a partner is a powerful statement of trust and love.

9-They are healing

Life leaves its mark on us, not just on our skin but in our minds. The negative things that happen to us tend to hang around in our minds and discourage us. A boudoir session can be part of a healing process and the start of a new chapter in your life.

10-If you don’t celebrate you, who will?

We all have friends and family that love us and show us affection but you are the only person that can truly and deeply celebrate who you are. A boudoir session is an experience that allows you to honour your body and your sense of self for the aspects you love about yourself.
