The stories behind the props that clients bring to their newborn sessions are always some of my favourites.

“Celebrating the birth of our first child was so important to us – but there are lots of important people in our lives who are very far away or unable to come visit. It felt important to share this amazing baby’s unbelievable cuteness with them in the best way possible, a way that an iphone alone can’t capture. Sara’s photos clearly do this: our daughter is as irresistible in these photographs as she is in real life!

What really helped us relax and enjoy our session was how wonderful Sara is with babies. Even though Maisy wanted to stay awake, look around, or squirm, Sara was able to calm her and settle her, swaddle her gently. She hummed and sang to her and settled her to sleep! (We really could use Sara at 3am…)

Our favourite photo is the composite with the scale. Sara was careful to produce this safely, explaining she doesn’t do any photos without baby’s safety and comfort as a number one priority. The scale was originally my husband’s grandfather’s scale from his butcher shop – he opened a shop in Kensington Market in Toronto after the Holocaust. It doesn’t work anymore but it’s a beautiful piece of family history we keep at our cottage. Having a photo of Maisy in her great grandfather’s scale was really special.”
